  "Black Jack Conway"
  Rachel X David

Hi Debbie,

Black Jack is 2 1/2 how and just a wonderful dog. He is very energetic and I tried to get an action picture but, between my slow trigger finger and the camera's delay, I took a lot of pictures of where he was a second before. As a compromise, I took a soe of snaps during less active moments.

Seriously, we just love Jack. He's beautiful, smart and friendly, even if a bit excitable. I am eagerly awaiting the three year miracle when he will become an adult. Six months to go!

We hope everything is well with you, your family and your animals.

Regards,

Ann and Carle

Ginger (Rosie X Shiloh 2009)

Hi Deb,

We haven't talked for awhile, but I saw Rosie's new litter on the web and thought maybe I should send you a update on Ginger.

Ginger is an abosolute sweetheart and so very smart. She loves her kitties and kids. Her favorite game is Frisbee and if mom can make a good throw she can catch it in the air. Ginger is very patient with me while I learn how to groom a poodle! We are seeing a little less of puppy attitude everyday and more mature big dog 'let me take care of you'. She is about 42 pounds and 24" at the shoulder. Sleeps like a cat, and acts like a cat - oh dear maybe she needs a dog friend!

We might be interested in adopting an adult from you, if you have one available at some point.

Ginger is such a pleasure, and we are so thankful that we found you and your poodles!
I hope you like the pictures, we seem to have a difficult time getting a clear picture of her.

Luke (Rayeh & Shiloh 2007 final litter)

Deb,

Merry Christmas and blessings in 2010 to you and your family! It's been a year or more since I updated you on our wonderful guy, Luke.

As predicted, he's a big, big boy! In fact, stands shoulder to shoulder with a Great Dane called Nemesis at the dog park we frequent. He never meets a stranger, and very politely walks away from ill tempered dogs. I think he just wonders how they can be so upset when life is so good!!

We continue to have people complement us on how beautiful he is, and what a gentle soul he has. He's as smart as a whip, and can be quite the clown when he wants to be.

We hope that maybe we'll add another one of your pups to our family. Maybe one of Jenny's? I believe she's Luke's full sister, and she looks just like him.

Here's praying for God's blessings on you and your family in 2010!

Sincerely,
Mary Prascher

  Hi Debbie:
Just wanted to send a quick note to you and tell you how throughly delighted we are with our new bundle of joy. Johann and Valentino are getting along famously.

I noticed that Valentino has brought a spark back to Johann. I plan on taking pictures over the weekend. Valentino has adapted extremely well.

A million thanks for Valentino. Take care. Keep and stay in touch.

  Warm regards,

  Pam Schrader :)

  Dear Debbie,

I went for my very first swim on my own. Jean was out in her canoe on Holland Lake and I needed to rescue her. Cleme says, that Jean had to come in and take me back to the dock because I am not a good swimmer. Cleme thinks she is sooo smart because she spends all of her time at the Lake in the water swimming. I would rather chase down all of the good scents then swim. Michael, Jean's friend, thinks I should be a tracking dog.

We went to Bigfork for the 4th of July. Jean took us out for a long walk. As usual, people wanted know more about us. Cleme put on her usual airs about being so beautiful. I just looked cute. Jean told them that we came from the Shiloh Kennel's in Stevensville. One man wanted to know if we were hunting dogs. (He is looking for a labadoodle). Jean said, that Cleme would make an excellent hunter because she points and flushes naturally. I on the other hand am a trackin" dog! I just don't like guns and fireworks. Nothing fazes Cleme except for the mama deer that comes by our house in the fall. (She's afraid of her).

We are getting haircuts in two weeks. Jean said, that she might bring us up to Stevensville so you can see how beautiful we are. I am going to be two on the 13th of July. I am a very good teenager, I just forget to listen. Cleme on the other hand would totally ignore Jean. Jean says that Cleme is becoming a delightful (I don't think so she bullies me all the time) young lady. Hope to see you in a few weeks,

  Love,
  Cooper (Rayea x Jasper 2002)

  Debbie-

I have to set the record straight. I do not bully Cooper. I just need to let him know that I am the alpha female in the house and he needs to listen to me. When he is afraid of fireworks, I curl up next to him and lick his face. He is such a doofus. I learned to open the gate - so I went for a run. What did Cooper do? He went to get Jean! So I was in trouble.

When we were at the lake, I could out swim the four other dogs at the cabin. I thought I was the top dog but Marley made it clear that I was not the number one dog at the lake. Marley is a six-year-old Siberian something else husky. Jean made me stay away from her so we wouldn't get in a fight.

I also went for a ride in the canoe. I tried to take it out by myself but Michael pulled me out of the canoe before I could dump it. In Bigfork, the two men who really liked me wanted to know my ancestry and everything. Jean told them I was doing agility and that in the Fall I would go back to my CD classes. Cooper does agility with us but I am better than he is. I am really excited that we might come and visit. I love to show everyone how beautiful I am! See you in a few weeks. Love,

  Cleme (Clementine x Danny 2002-03)

  Hi Debbie,

Cowboy (Chloe x Jasper 2003) is such a wonderful, beautiful, intelligent, kind dog! Today was his day for being neutered, and he did fine. When I arrived at the vet this morning, the intake nurse told me that Cowboy is the staff's favorite dog--and she said they see hundreds of animals there! They like his personality and also think he's the most beautiful poodle they've ever seen. I thought you'd like to hear that.

I always tell them about you and how fortunate I feel to have found you! I gave your name to a woman today who asked me about Cowboy. She says she's been looking for a beautiful standard puppy. I hope everything is going well with you and your family and all your beautiful dogs. Again, I can't tell you how very blessed we all feel by the addition of this extraordinary dog to our family.

  Best wishes,

  Sarah

  Hi Deb,

It's Friday afternoon 4/30/04 end of a long week. Sky went to work today with me, and we were all ready for some leg stretching. We just returned from a wonderful evening sunset at the beach. Sky is such a joy to watch as she circles the waves, chases the birds, and just delights in the moment. It is impossible not to feel the same light hearted celebration of just being alive.

Sky is such a natural at work, and everyone marvels at her instincts and abilities, as well as her gentle and confident disposition. We were all in tears last week when Sky worked with a four-year-old girl that had been attacked by a Rotty and the top half of her head was removed. She was in therapy for post traumatic stress disorder, and is terrified of dogs.

Sky was in the back hall with me early in the morning before work and this child came back to begin her session with another therapist. She saw Sky and asked to visit with her. Sky ever so gently went over to her and they went nose to nose for what seemed like a full minute. Then she laid down and the child rubbed her tummy. She said she was four and I told her Sky was four too (months). There was such an instinctual interaction coming from this baby puppy and this child. Almost chilling.

We do love our Sky and I thank you in my thoughts daily.

  Love Deb

  Hi Debbie,

Hope all is well with you and you family. I just wanted to keep you posted on our beautiful "Roxy." She is almost 5 months old now and getting bigger everyday. She is quite the beauty, of course we are bias on all fronts.

She is definitely little "Miss Independence," but loves to please. She is remarkably intelligent and has learned to open the French doors to the living room if she wants to come in. She is the only dog we've ever had that has figured out how to push the handles down. She has even figured out how to shut off my computer. Now she has a fetish for my glasses. Could be she wants to become a computer Geek :-)

She loves the other dogs and is constantly playing with them. She is attached at the hip with my male Portuguese Water Dog and has chosen him as her mentor (poor thing). She is teething now and into everything. This phase too shall pass soon (hopefully).

We just wanted to thank you so much for raising such wonderful animals. Roxy is a complete joy and we love her beyond words!

  Hi Debbie!

It's a cool, crisp October morning and Sophie loves this air. I'm sure it reminds her of home in Montana. She sure gets attention in the Condo's as she grows and grows. She is going to be tall. That's for sure. She now has some body mass and Heritage doesn't tolerate her new found jaw strength. Those needles, called puppy teeth, are about ready to be pushed out and her eating sure has increased. I have to regulate a little tighter to keep her fit & trim.

All the neighbors oooh and aaah at her as she prances and bounces throughout the yard. She greets all and is especially fond of chasing the squirrels and rabbits. (She learned the obsession with squirrels from her sister Heritage. I wish I had a movie camera so that you could see the vertical bouncing that sophie does. It's hysterical. She's spring loaded and barks at the same time. Yes, she found her voice. Really, the only time she barks is when she wants someone or something to play with her. Heritage just tunes her out on her bad days.

Who would have thought I'd become a poodle owner!!! Sophie sure has changed my opinion of them. I still think I wouldn't like the tiny ones, I'm just into big dogs. Sophie gets her rabies vaccination tomorrow and then we can go meet Heritage's friends at the 'Bark Park'. Oh, can't wait. She'll be in seventh heaven!

Well, need to get to work. I promise I'll get the new pictures downloaded so you can see us all now. I have Sophie in a "continental' cut and do believe I can do this myself now. Got my clippers now, invested in some good professional ones with extra blades...hey it's only hair and it will grow out as I learn right?

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and yours. I have great respect and admiration for how you raise you "children". Our vet says she is one of the best, healthiest and cleanest (genetically) he has seen in Michigan in a long, long time. None of them can believe I ventured out of the Doberman realm!

  Have a blessed week.

  Hi Debbie!

Bella and I went to the Vet, today for her Vet check. Our regular Vet was just married (for the first time) and was on his honeymoon. So I had another Vet see her today.

After examining her, he asked why I bought her? Are you going to show or breed her? I stated neither. She is our pet. Then he said, "This is the most magnificent Standart Poodle I have ever seen in my 25 years of practice. Everthing about her is just right. Her confirmation, her mouth and teeth everything is just magnificent. Her temperment is that of a much older dog. I want you to know you have a very special dog."

However, I knew that. I did alot of praying and God gave me the perfect little Miss. I said if you know anyone who would like a similar dog, just let me know. I will give you the e-mail address of Shiloh Garden. They are all magnificent dogs.

I'll be sending you the Vet check letter tomorrow. Just wanted you to know how much he appreciated and knew a great Standard Poodle when he saw one.

We all just love her dearly. She has socialized with my daughters Toy Poodle and her Toy Terrior. They had a great time. They ripped and teared around the yard.

Thank you so much. My love and God's blessings.

  Deb,
  11/27/06

The boys love Cielo, and he is wonderful. Playful, smart and such a love, really great with kids. Did you have your grandson around the pups? Because I had a friend come over with her 5-mo old baby and Cielo was fantastic and gentle with him, as he's been with everybody. He met a friend's cranky old Springer this morning who hates dogs, and he had Shelly doing play bows and puppy frolics, truly a miracle. He goes to meet our trainer, Donna Levine/Dog Gone Good, and her 1.5 year old standard poodle this afternoon, so I thought I'd clip his feet. He fussed a very little bit, I firmly said no, deb, and he LAID DOWN and went to SLEEP on my lap while I clipped him! Needless to say, he was smothered in kisses, liver treats, and lots of praise afterwards! And we just about have "sit" accomplished, this pup is so smart!

I bathed him yesterday, and again, so calm. I was able to use my blow dryer (never on Zoe) and he just snuggled in and let me dry him. So he's a clean, cute little fluffball. Of course right after that he went out for his first romp in the snow here. What a clown! Licking, leaping, sliding, he had us in stitches. Great appetite, loves the yummy food. Weight gain from 7.2 pounds to 8.8 yesterday. Anyway, I could probably write a novel of love about this pup, but I'm sure you wouldn't have time to read it!

Anyway, thanks again for all you did and all you do with your dogs, they are truly very special, and we are blessed each minute with this baby!

On another note, Donna absolutely thinks Cielo is "a very nice, very sane pup." She ran him through all sorts of temperament testing (she has a masters degree in animal behavior) and exercises, and proclaimed him to be a great fit for our family.

She said "your breeder has done you a real service in the selection of this dog." These things we knew, but I was thrilled to hear the remarks from an unbiased professional. She was impressed with your puppy grooming program, advice, and all that I shared
about Shiloh Gardens. We continue to be thrilled, and amazed...

  Deb,

Harry is lovely! We went to see his vet on Monday and she checked him out thoroughly and pronounced him to be a marvelous specimen. He was quite patient and good for his check-up. I have been combing and brushing him to get him used to being handled by me and, other than a little protest, he generally quiets down easily and lets me "groom". Other than the first night, when I took him out every 2 and a half hours (he would wake crying), I've been waking him at midnight to go out one last time and then he sleeps quite contentedly until 6:30 or so the next morning. WONDERFUL!

He is doing well during the day, but we are monitering him pretty closely (out every 2 hours or so). I feed him three times a day, as you suggested during the time, and make him wait until I say "Okay" to begin his meal (just starting a few manners and a sense of control early). He was quite a hit at the party Wednesday night and received no less than eight presents--I have a friend who really has been wanting a standard and now wants to talk with you about possibly adopting/buying a grown-up should you know of an available one who needs a good home. I continue to be amazed at his sense of calm and dignity--so unusual for a puppy this age.

He received a polka dot rubber Wellington boot (at his party) which has become his favorite toy--he becomes quite irate with it and growls and tosses and attacks it for long periods of time on end--very fun to watch. I have gotten some info on puppy obedience classes and am going to try and do something with that starting in January. I feel that that will be a very satisfying thing for him and for me--he really is a very responsive puppy and I feel that he is already really thinking about things. Now he is known as "Handsome Harry" or "High-stepping Harry" (my husband's pet moniker for him--by the way, my big macho husband--hunter man is quite fond of him and has taken over the "first thing in the morning" walks and lets him play in the kitchen with him while John eats breakfast--Harry adores him). He has a much quieter response to me, but I am who feeds him and who he follows around and He spends more time "looking" at me--I haven't quite figured it out yet...what he thinks of me, that is. But I know that I am quite fond of him and get more so each day that passes.

(One funny thing he does is to get a very reproachful look on his face, when I won't let him do what he wants outside--like eating something gross--and he plops down on his bottom and refuses to move and stares balefully at me as if I am the source of deprivation of all good things and just no fun at all--which I suffer through for moment or so and then just launch us off to another part of the yard--soon all is forgiven).

I'll send you some photos when I can get my husband at the computer with me to show me how to do it--I've taken loads already. your paypal has been tended to--Have a marvelous Christmas--we love your puppy!

I just wanted to let you know how Alex is doing. Everyone has been amazed at how well behaved she is. She acts like a much older puppy.

She's been good with both of the kids and my son has been having a wonderful time playing with her. She already loves to follow him around. She's doing pretty well trying to befriend our cats. I think she'll have the younger one of them playing with her in a couple of days.

She went with me to work this morning and everyone had to comment on how calm she was. She's been going through the house testing to see what she can and cannot chew. I don't think I've ever seen a dog be methodical like that.

She's already a wonderful addition to our family.

  Debbie,
An update on Louis in Louisiana (Lucy Shackelford's pup--Shiloh's Easter Eve litter). Louis is going to be the dog that ate Manhattan--he is quite large at four months and 1 week--thank heavens, he seems to have inherited his father's "gentle giant" personality. So far, healthy as a horse.

We started puppy school last week (this is a true labor of love on my part--I have to drive us an hour each way to get there) and the first week WE JUST STUNK! He was, by far, the largest puppy there (out of about 30--including German shephards, etc. who were his age) and he was just so excited that he couldn't calm down and focus on anything--Oh, the joy of all those other puppies in a single room--he wanted to play!!! It was actually quite embarrassing (I was continually being reprimanded by the instructors--"Now, Mrs. Shackelford, we are not interacting with the other puppies this week--socialization starts next week....Mrs. Shackelford, when we do socialize we will separate by size-please take your gargantuan dog away from the little king charles spaniel, dachsun, pug, etc....Mrs. Shackelford....") We achieved some level of redemption on performing the final exercise of the first lesson--dominance training. We were to hold our puppies in our arms like babies (I already knew all about this one)--of course, more special instructions for "Mrs. Shackelford--you might want to just let him lie on his back between your legs with his head in your lap, because he is so much larger of course"

Well, Louis and I showed them--He settled back, like I knew he would, and just splayed himself out in total relaxation as I rubbed his tummy, just lolling about, Louis-like (I just love him, he is such a just big ole "lug") while all around us there was struggle from the heretofore "nice..good" little dogs. Little dachsunds straining, tiny Corgis snapping and barking, German Shepherd puppy (earlier the star of the class) actually getting somewhat violent (those special instructions were pretty funny--"Mr. X, please remove your hand from your shepherd's mouth--I think you may be in danger of being actually bitten") And all the while, Louis and Lucy--happy as sleepy pigs in the sunshine, perfect! We practiced twice a day and we were ready for class #2 last night--we did really beautifully--it did help that they got free play time--and Louis is so friendly and cordial and happy to meet and greet--finally the little dog owners realized that Mr. El Hugo was far less of a threat to their tiny treasures than the really nasty little Corgi-mix two dogs down. (and you know I love corgies, I had one for years, but this guy was a real pain--no dog manners--he took off after Louis yapping unpleasantly and Louis just looked at him and trotted the other direction--God love him).

Anyway, house training is going well. Still a mishap here or there, but quite seldom (though when they do occur, they are whoppers--and he is like a cat looking for a litter box--very strange--he pooh-poohed on the couch twice! Hasn't done that again as I've stepped up surveilance and "out" trips.

He will get his final shots in about three weeks. He absolutely loves the children and all of their friends. He loves John, my husband, who takes him on his two mile walk around Mer Rouge every morning at 6:00 (they often meet a neighbor who has a large German poodle pointer and John says he is crazy about him). He loves me and he is a funny, handsome, big strong boy. So gentle, so gentle and nonplussed by the goings on in our house. Not to say that he isn't playful! His favorite game is for me or the children to shriek at him from one of the rooms--then he RUNS like crazy around the house and we jump out and scare him and shriek again--and he leaps and runs and acts like he is terrified--but, if we get tired of the game, he comes to find us like "Aw, come on...do it again"

Debbie, I really love him. He is going to be a marvelous dog--a magnificent dog, I believe. He is smart, but he is stubborn, but he is so gentle. Stubborn can be overcome with patience and training and love (and it is)--smart and gentle are just God given. Very different from our dear Harry--who was just much more "elegant". Louis is so endearing in his own big, clumsy masculine way. I trust him completely--Already I know that I can do anything to him and he would never ever object in a scary or violent way. That doesn't sound like that big a deal, but when you've had lots of dogs over the years, and you're realistic about your dogs, you know what I'm talking about--he would never snap at a child (most of my dogs would have, under extreme duress, even the ones that liked children), he'll never have to be muzzled at the vet no matter what they do to him, etc. He is just a gentle and easy soul--a "baby climb-on" dog--I adore him, adore him, adore him. He does remind me of my border collie, Sally, from years ago--who was another soul of great gentleness and control.

We'll check in later--hope you are all doing well!

   Hi Deb,

Well the New Year has begun and our girl is now 19 lbs and growing like a weed. Vet loves her, we love her and she is enjoying all the Holiday attention.

Although slightly spoiled she responds to name, come, sit and stay when she feels like it. Does not like to toilet in house and will let us know 20 times a day to take her out.

She is teething on a basket full of toys plus our slippers, pajama bottoms, fingers up to the elbows. Does beautifully in the van. Wants to chase the goats but they are off limits until she is a little bigger and has improved manners.

I do not know how you chose Sophie for us but you were right on target. She is loving, attentive, full of life and definitely has a mind of her own. We adore her.

I hope you and your family had of great holiday and I will try to send some pictures soon.

  Always,

An open letter to anyone wishing to have a great dog,

  1. Choose the right breed.
  2. Choose the right breeder.
  3. Choose the right dog.
  4. Work the dog to maximize it's potential.

Hi, my name is Andre Fritz, and I have had the distinct pleasure of having 7 great dogs who have enriched and enhanced my life. Currently I have a trio that are a constant source of amazement and joy to my wife and myself. As for picking the right breed, you have to accurately assess your needs and prejudices in order to make an informed and appropriate choice.

For me, the Royal Standard Poodle exemplifies all that one could wish for in a dog; super (almost human like) intelligence, incredible personalities that are playful and affectionate beyond measure, and sturdy confirmation and size that lends them to any lifestyle, from quietude to spirited romps in nature. Their love of water and the outdoors is only matched by their love for you. They are easy going, amiable and fun-loving companions.

As for the right breeder, my most recent 2 came from Debbie Euker of Shiloh Gardens. In each case, we were treated with care and kindness, especially as we had just lost one of our cherished companions. Debbie was sensitive and extremely honorable to us in our dealings. She is a "real" person. Her stock is exceptional in its healthiness, size and temperament. She helped us chose through discussions and her special testing at seven weeks, to accurately select the right match for our needs.

Our "Samba" is an extremely gorgeous and good natured boy who is in constant play with our wondrous "Kunga Queen", who possesses one of the finest spirits and temperaments of any dog that I have ever experienced, and is a testament to her Sire, Shiloh, and indeed to all of Debbie's stock. We couldn't be happier.

Finally, you must work with your dog to extract the very best in each of them. This is as important as all of the rest. The beauty of dogs, and especially Poodles, is that they are extremely malleable and adaptable. All life thrives when it is nurtured and your dog is no different. As the Bible puts it "You reap what you sow". This formula has worked for me for over 35 years, and I can't imagine my life without these magnificent creatures in it. "Dogs are like people, but without most of the bad stuff!"

  Andre Fritz

  Dear Deb,

Just a note to let you know that we are madly in love with our little guy, Tader. He is wonderful! He has gone to the horse show with me and got along very well even though the atmosphere can be overwhelming.

At the barn he has several new friends; a border collie who plays the same games he does and where he can get filthy, happy and tired; a large standard poodle who is a little too big and rowdy for him at this point; and he has fallen in love with my friend's female Bouvier who he follows around and admires. He is a champ with the house training and his little obedience lessons are going great. He is so smart.

The vet was impressed with him, and with you! He said few breeders send dogs out as well prepared as far as shots and records and general health. He loves his yard which has many levels and secret areas and I catch him sitting out there on the top step just looking out at the mountains and the world.

Deb, thank you for this dog. He is just what I had been dreaming about for so long.

  Sincerely,

  Sharman & Tader

Hi Deb,

Know you must be busy with your BIG new litter! Glad we got our brown boy from you when we did!

Bodie's been to training class, and, today, his first 'haircut". His temperament is admired wherever he goes. Not even 5 months, and the groomer said he was more poised than most adults. The grooming has revealed his beautiful carriage - he had grown into a puppy-hair puffball!

He is eager to please and it looks like agility training is inevitable because he loves to go over, under and through things.

We continue to be captivated by him.

We'll send a photo soon of our 'little man-dog'.
